Green-Eyed Envy
Black locust, honey locust, and plum wood; epoxy resin; polyurethane finish
36” diameter, about 2-1/2” thick
The black locust and honey locust used in this piece was originally cut as firewood in Blair, Oklahoma. The plum wood came from Cypress, Texas.
Under normal lighting, the black locust, honey locust, and plum wood create a collage of rich autumnal colors. Note how the reddish heartwood of the honey locust appears to bleed into its lighter sapwood. The carved contours seem to exaggerate this effect.
Both black locust and honey locust glow bright green under UV light. Place a UV art lamp above the panel, and on special occasions expose your guests to hundreds of staring “green eyes” (see attached photo with blacklight on).
