Low Tide
Mesquite wood; epoxy resin; polyurethane finish
36" diameter; approximately 2-1/2" thick
The mesquite wood used in this piece came from Seguin, Texas. The trees were cut down to clear property.
Texas mesquite is one of the hardest woods in North America giving it a natural luster. The colors of the heartwood range from golden tan to deep reddish brown, while the sapwood appears as a lighter lemon color. Blues and grays can also be seen in areas of spalting, a term used to describe the common (and highly prized) wood discoloration caused by a fungus. While mesquite may be best known for the flavor it adds to BBQ and smoke meats, the gorgeous colors and figured grain patterns rival those of other common hardwoods.
‘Low Tide’ features a fluidity and softness that contrasts with the hardness of the Texas wood staple. Adjust the light source for a new visual experience. The artwork can be hung vertically or horizontally based on the owner’s preference. And yes, this piece feels as buttery soft as it looks.
